Maybe you should just stick with regular painting, not digital painting.

When I first got my tablet... I hated it! I quit using it for like a month. Then I told myself "Self... you spent good money on this, you're going to use it, dammit!" So I forced myself to use it... and now I can't function without one! lol

Don't give up! You'll get the hang it eventually!! :D

yeah. your hand is just trained. I just got a tablet too(temporarily at pgsa..) and it was hard at first, but with my drawing class here, I learned how to loosen up, and draw from the shoulder, not the wrist or elbow. are you being to tense around that muscle in your forearm?

Also, you could try to set the size and opacity and stuff to work with pressure sensitivity, would make it more like painting i think ^^
Dunno about the actual making shapes and stuff though... You'll just have to practise i guess xD

Hehe, I think I'm starting to get the hang of things.. Go to google images or something and find a basic image with a few different colors in the subject, lock it on the bottom layer, and try painting over it layer by layer, undoing whatever you need as you do it... I'm finding that low opacity lets me get my lines and color strokes right without much retrying.
